What my various personalities are wearing this winter
Dressing for my favorite moods courtesy of Net-A-Porter
Cou cou! Even as a person who has spent 22 of her winters in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Wisconsin–you know, places where people freeze their actual baguettes off–I am still shocked every winter when the temperatures drop below 30 degrees. I’m writing you from my home in New York City where it’s currently 18 degrees and it’s so windy downtown I just saw a trash can take flight.
Anyhow, with that said, it’s so cold it feels almost impossible to look (or at least feel) put together as I rarely take off my coat, and there are only so many things that will fit on top of 2-3 layers of long johns. With the help of my friends at Net-A-Porter (who are so kindly sponsoring this newsletter!) I’ve cooked up some outfits to get those creative juices flowing (even when they’re properly frozen) and feel more like myself again. Enjoy!
Look 1: In which Anna Karina in Chinese Roulette raids her man’s closet
For as much as I love The Row, a full Row-esque look doesn’t always speak to me. Adding a vintage-inspired tassel necklace (my Nana had earrings that look very similar to this from the 70s) by Chloé and a silk turban gave the blazer’s structure and delectable tailoring a bit of whimsicality.

Look 2: A femme fatale’s casual Friday
It’s only been in the past couple of years that I’ve fully embraced denim, after a childhood aversion to the fabric. Now, I practically live in a baggy jean and love to dress them up with a dangerous-looking heel and a great jacket (or a fun belt, like the tassel number by Chloé, below).

Look 3: When you’re dark and spooky but still have a soft spot
It (probably) goes without saying that I wear a lot of black. I’ve spoken before about how, as a highly-sensitive person, it is a form of armor for me. So a soft and cozy black shearling feels like the perfect mix of a hard exterior with a tender heart. And this pillbox hat by Toteme is sublime.

Look 4: A 70s French ghost who you can still hear clonking up the stairs in her beloved boots
When I put this on, I honestly had a bit of an emotional reaction: I just felt so ‘me’, even though it’s (gasp!) not black. Chloé’s new creative direction, with all of its undone, bohemian French-ness, really sets my soul alight. (The hair alone gives me life.) I loved styling this airy dress with a black ankle boot to stomp around in and for some edge and contrast.
