Given the nature of my job, social media is both a hobby and, well, work. But when I really think about it, it’s rare that I close out of Instagram or TikTok feeling inspired or creatively fulfilled. Zut alors, as they say!
Because of this, and the amount of time I must spend on the interwebs throughout the week, I intentionally avoid the scroll on Sundays. Sunday, instead, is my day to feed my brain with art, literature, film, and good old Pinterest, where I love to catalogue old editorials, film stills, and the like. (I also keep a living archive with physical magazines and books, etc., but I only have so much space for scraps of paper in my tiny New York apartment, much to my dismay.)
I keep a running list in my Notes app throughout the week of the things I see, hear, and like, which inspire me, creatively and otherwise. Below, find this week’s hits!
Jane Birkin’s bag charms, of course, but also the way she sets her bag on the ground
I love beautiful things, but nothing too precious.
French rolls (or French twists)
Like this one seen on Catherine Deneuve.
This styling in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
I live for a pillbox hat.
A mess can be beautiful, too.
Being inundated with so many minimal spaces and outfits on the Internet (and in my own space/wardrobe), I’ve found myself craving more sentiment, opulence, and dare I say chaos, in my daily life and creative pursuits. This may be worthy of its own article, but for now…
Françoise Hardy’s eyeliner
…and Françoise Hardy again, specifically in this cape (and those boots!) by Arnaud de Rosnay
Let’s hear it once more for Françoise Hardy, and this album cover (if you know me, you know my love for pigeons)
This Elsa Schiaparelli hat from the 1950s
Princess Diana visiting The Vatican in 1985
I love a chapel veil. That cardinal’s outfit isn’t so bad either!
Bella Freud’s sweaters
Like this one, as seen on my friend, Romilly.
Elizabethan collars
Dressing for utility is not always a great concern of mine.
Nick Knight’s interview series with Susie Cave on SHOWstudio
Mismatching
Socks, shoes, sunglasses, pant legs…it scratches an itch I didn’t know I had.
Cats in bonnets.
Gucci F/W 2002 Runway
I think that’s all for now! Wishing you a marvelous week ahead.
Love
